Navigenics Personal Genetic Testing
In April, 2003, mapping of the human genome was completed. Over 99% of human DNA is exactly alike. The 1% that varies is what makes each person unique. Research has found many SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) that are markers in DNA that show an increased risk of developing certain common medical conditions.
Navigenics is a leader in the personalized genetic testing industy. They stand apart from their competition by being ultra conservative. They are very critical in selecting peer reviewed literature, and only test your DNA for markers that science unequivocally shows are associated with diseases. In an effort to ensure the information they give you is accurate, their strict criteria excludes many published studies that other companies include.
Benefits of Personal Genetic Testing

- Learn about lifestyle changes and medications/supplements that would reduce your risk.
- Learn about testing that could diagnose conditions early.
- Discover conditions of which you are a carrier and may want to have your spouse or children evaluated.
- Receive reassurance about conditions you are geneticlly at low risk of developing.
- Pharmacogenetics panel- In the Spring of 2010, Navigenics will be adding a pharmacogenetics profile. There are genetic differences in how well you will respond to a medication, and whether you will experience potentially dangerous adverse reactions. Navigenics will analyze your genetically determined responses to 12 medications including Statins, Coumadin, Plavix, and Beta Blockers.
- Newly released updates, including the pharmacogenetics profile, are run automatically. They are included in the price for the first year. After that Navigenics will continue providing update for a nominal yearly fee.
